1937 Riley 12/4 Drop-head Coupe

This car was sold new by Ponting Ltd of Leeds and first registered on 3rd November 1937 to The Right Honourable Dudley Dowse with whom it remained until 1946 when it was sold to a Flying Officer in the RAF.

Purchased by the present owner in 1990, the car was devoid of any bodywork, having been removed and discarded by a previous owner. Some restoration had already been started, but the present owner commenced work in earnest, with the desire to have a Drop-head Coupé body similar to those built by Wilders of Kew providing seating for four adults.

Everything mechanically has been rebuilt including a comprehensive rebuild of the engine by a well know Riley specialist. The chassis was not 'chopped' or modified in any way, as is so often the case. Due to other commitments, the car is now reluctantly being offered for sale but still requires re-trimming, some re-chroming and general finishing-off of the restoration. The car runs well and a great deal of both time and money has been spent to get the car to the state it is in today. The engine will still require careful 'running-in'. The car is fitted with its original manual gearbox.

There is a reasonably large history file with the car comprising mainly of invoices for work done on the car, together with the original buff coloured logbook from 1937. Work carried out includes the following:
