Austin motorcars were manufactured from 1907 onwards. Herbert Austin had previously been General Manager of Wolseley, and resigned in 1905 to form his own company. 1932 saw the introduction of the Austin 10 hp model, a 1.1 litre side valve mono-block. It had a top speed of 55 mph and could achieve 34 mpg. It was improved in 1934 with the introduction of a four-speed synchromesh gearbox and 12 volt electrics.
The Ripley Tourer was only produced in very small numbers and only a handful survive. It is believed that the car was restored over 30 years ago, but had not seen much usage over the intervening years. The vehicle still carries its original registration and there is an original buff coloured logbook together with various old MoT's for the car. Although the car has not been on the road for the last few years, the engine is running and it could be MoT'd, but because we feel the car could do with some further restoration, we are intending to sell the car, as it is. Bodily the car appears totally sound and all the doors open and close as they should. A very rare car looking for a caring home! Al sensible offers considered.
